Now, I don't normally do "punny" cards, but I suddenly had a bunch of ideas in my head. I jotted down 6 ideas, and made 4 cards yesterday. I'll be posting them over the next couple of days, and hopefully be able to make the other 2 cards as well. Here's the challenge from CAS-ual Fridays:

CFC41: Jest for the Pun of it.

Use a pun, or a sentiment in a silly way to create a joke, on your

Clean And Simple creation.

And now for the paper yummies:

This lil' tomato from Unity Stamps is too cute! I got this set a few weeks ago, and have never used it. I thought he would be perfect stamped onto some patterned paper and, well, he is. The polka dot paper is from the Echo Park "Happy Days" 6x6 pad. Now, let's just stop for a second and talk about the sentiment...can you believe it was created with alphabet stamps?!? I'm really not trying to toot my own horn (because the stamps did all the work), but I think it totally looks like it was computer generated! It's an older set from American Crafts (called Ginger) that I happened to find recently at Tuesday Morning. I gotta say, American Crafts NAILED IT on this one. These individual letters stamp so crisply and match up perfectly to create a cursive word. I absolutely love them, and you'll be seeing them on another one of the punny cards I made yesterday. Ok, moving on...the bottom edge of the card was created by stamping this great border stamp by Mint Motif, then trimming around the lower edge of the stamp to create a scallop (I stamped it in white ink, then went over it with a white pen to make it more opaque and match my faux stitching). I added a strip of patterned paper underneath it, and finished off the card with some white dashed lines around the edges. Here's a closer view of my little tomato:

Love that lil' guy! Here are the four colors:

And here is the sketch:
I stretched the sketch to change the orientation of my card. I used an adorable digital stamp (FREE!) from Paper Smooches, and I paired it with one of their sentiment stamps from the Word Salad set. Now, the actual stamp spells belated properly, but I wanted to play off the bee theme, so I did some creative masking to change it to "beelated". I also stamped the words in a row instead of stacked, as they are on the stamp. You can see the stamp below:
And now for the paper yummies:

I have a whole pack of this cute bee patterned paper from American Crafts + Dear Lizzy, and I thought it would make the perfect background for this card, as well as a cute pattern for paper-piecing the bee. I left his little wings un-adhered, so I could raise them and make them dimensional. I used Glossy Accents on his eyes, and that's the only part I'm not completely satisfied with. For some reason, the eyes have TONS of bubble in them. I never shake my Glossy Accents, so I'm not sure why that happened. Oh well. Here's a close-up of my lil bee and his wings:

Here is a card I made using my new "This & That Graceful" 6x6 pad from Echo Park. There are some really lovely patterns in this pad!!! And they are double sided. I thought these particular patterns would make a sympathy card that is sure to cheer anybody up. Luckily, I don't know anybody in need of a sympathy card, but they're great to have on hand. The light wood grain pattern is the back side of the large floral print, which has a great variety of colors. I used a stamp from Papertrey Ink, a Nestabilities die, and a scallop edge punch by Fiskars. This pad has so many great, usable patterns in it. I thought that this letter pattern was too cool to not make a school-related card with it. I used the scraps from the paper to cut out "LEARN" with my craft knife (I also took a couple letters from an area of my background piece that I knew would be covered). I also used some Mint Motif stamps to create a star-shaped chipboard button and a little paper-pieced chipboard pencil, and some Hero Arts alpha stamps to complete my sentiment. Now for the paper yummies:

To create the star "button" (under the pencil), I stamped the star on chipboard and on the blue patterned paper. Then I cut out the blue star and adhered it onto the chipboard star. I cut out the chipboard star, punched two "button holes" in it with my Crop-a-dile Big Bite, then covered the star with Glossy Accents. For the pencil, I stamped on chipboard and onto the cute yellow striped patterned paper, then cut just the barrel of the pencil out of the yellow paper. I pieced it onto the barrel of the chipboard pencil, then colored the wood and eraser portions of the pencil with Prismacolor markers. I cut out the paper-pieced chipboard pencil, and secured it on top of the star with some baker's twine. I added silver Stickles to the part of the pencil that would be metal. I also added Glossy Accents to the letters in "LEARN". Here's a closer view:

I am entering this card here:

Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge

Simon Says Stamp 3 different papers challenge

Little Red Wagon chipboard challenge

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections; patterned papers: Echo Park; stamps: Mint Motif (writing line, star, pencil), Hero Arts (alphabet stamps); ink: Tsukineko; embossing powder, dimensional adhesive: American Crafts; markers: Prismacolor; scallop edge punch: EK Success; hole punch: We R Memory Keepers; Glossy Accents, glitter glue: Ranger; ribbon: craft supply; baker's twine: Divine Twine; craft knife: Fiskars; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

Simple Card Saturday - Make a wish

Happy Saturday (at least for a few more minutes)! This is my final post for the day, as well as my card the final sketch for the Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration! YAY!!! And it's extra special because Kim Moreno hosted day 15, and I know her personally! We used to work together at a scrapbook store when she lived here. The girl is super talented, and finds time to create beautiful things while taking care of 5 kids. Go Kim! Here is the sketch she picked for day 15 (#231):
I also wanted to create another card for the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge. Here is the inspiration photo for that challenge:
I again was inspired by the felt and stitching, but this time I stuck more with the color and theme of the photo. I also incorporated some metal, inspired by the safety pin. And I tried a new technique (for me): stitching inside a stamped sentiment. Now for the paper yummies:

I stamped two different background patterns in two different ink colors instead of using papers. Then I stitched in between them with green thread. I stacked 3 felt hearts on top of this cute die-cut heart from The Girls' Paperie, then I stitched right up the middle of all of them with the same green thread. I wanted to incorporate some metal, but didn't have a cute little clothespin like the one in the photo. So I used my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and added some tiny staples. Here is a closer view of the hearts:

I stamped this cute sentiment from Paper Smooches "Word Salad", then I thought, "I wonder how that would look with green stitching in the middle?" Turns out - pretty cute! LOL! I think I may have to do that more often! Here's a closer view:

I tied some ribbon around the front of the card, using my new "short ribbon" trick, and added a button with some baker's twine. Then I adhered the stamped/stitched sentiment onto the ribbon:

I'm playing along with these challenges:

Paper Smooches Sparks challenge

Paper Smooches March Guest Designer Search

Card Positioning Systems day 15 sketch

Fab 'n' Funky Challenge 108: Try something new (stitching inside a sentiment stamp)

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned paper/heart die cut: The Girls' Paperie, stamps: Martha Stewart (backgrounds), Paper Smooches (sentiment); inks: Tsukineko (Pear Tart and Angel Pink Memento, Onyx Black Versafine); felt hearts: American Crafts; stapler: Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher; ribbon: The Ribbon Boutique; button: Buttons Galore; baker's twine: Divine Twine; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

CPS Day 14 - be happy

Hello, everybody! I've got another post for you today, and that is my card for day 14 of the Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary. And since this sketch can be clean and simple, I decided to make another card for the CAS-ual Fridays challenge this week. Here is the sketch (#45):
And here is the CAS-ual Fridays challenge for the week: paper piecing. YAY!
I just bought this stamp a few days ago, thinking that it would be PERFECT for paper piecing. And. it. is. I just decided to stick to 2 colors/patterns, but I think this stamp would also look cool with a different color/pattern for each layer (5 total). Now for the paper yummies:

The stamp is by Hampton Art, and it's paired with the sentiment stamp, so that was a no-brainer. I tried a new technique (for me), and that is stamping on the ribbon. I've run my ribbon through my printer before, but never stamped on it. I really like the way it turned out. I also really love all the different patterns in the flower stamp, especially the text in the outermost layer. TOO CUTE! I loved this sketch the first time it was featured on CPS, so I was very excited when Lea chose it for her sketch. See, I knew I wanted to make a baby card based on the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge, and this sketch just fit my idea perfectly. Here's the CPS sketch (#121):And here's the inspiration photo from the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge. I just love this puffy lil' felt heart with the stitching:
I was inspired by the felt and the stitching, but I took my card in a bit of a different direction, color-wise. I had just bought these cute little stitched felt embellishments the day I saw this challenge, so that worked out perfectly! And since I still only have 1 Paper Smooches stamp set, I'm challenging myself to find some not-so-obvious ways to use it. I wanted to make a baby card, but there's no baby-specific stamp in the Word Salad set. Hmmm...I was in a bit of a quandary. What to do...? Check out the paper yummies below to see how I created a baby card sentiment with non-baby stamps:

The Word Salad set has a "welcome" and a "dude" stamp, so I combined the two and then hand-wrote the "lil'" between the two stamped words. And since the inspiration photo had stitching in it, I added some stitching of my own around the card and the negative circle die cut, as well as with some stitched green ribbon. I love the way it turned out. Here is a closer view:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; Here is my card for day 12 of the Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration. Here is the sketch (#118):
I just got the "Whale Wishes" stamp set and matching die from Papertrey Ink, and thought it would work really well with this sketch. I also thought that these papers from My Mind's Eye were so cute for a baby card - I especially LOVE those letters! I stamped the whale in gray ink, then applied Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Linen to help the whale match the gray in the patterned papers. I curved the sentiment stamp on my acrylic block to match the curve on the circle die cut. Now for the paper yummies:

I added some straight gray stitching around the outer edge of the alphabet patterned paper, then zig-zag stitched around the circle. I stamped the little red hearts coming out of the whale's blow hole. I love this little guy! Here is the sketch (#170):

I needed to make a thank you card for a very generous gal in the Hero Arts Flickr group (thanks again, Greta!), and I knew that I wanted to use the Hero Arts Zigzag background, but like I said in day 10's post, I just can't get enough Paper Smooches lately. And there's a super cute "many thanks" stamp in my poor lonely "Word Salad" set (can't wait to get my first installment of the PS club next month!), so I decided to have some fun using the "many thanks" with the zigzag. I rarely use purple in my projects, so I thought I'd challenge myself to do something I little different. I stamped the zigzag background onto a purple card base using Colorbox fluid chalk ink in Wisteria. I stamped the entire "many thanks" stamp onto a strip of white cardstock using black ink. Then I did a WHOLE bunch of masking (of "many") and stamping (of just "thanks") to create a background with many thanks on it, using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Dusty Concord. And now for the paper yummies:

I stamped the cute little heart from the Word Salad set on either side of the "many thanks", then colored them yellow to match my button and baker's twine. I used the new trick that I "invented" for tying shorter ribbons, and added a couple of stacked buttons. I finished it off with some Glossy Accents on the little hearts. I think it turned out really cute. Here's a closer view:

I'm submitting this card to Paper Smooches March Guest Designer Search, and playing along at Cupcake Craft Challenges "Entwined" challenge. I hope everybody had a great weekend. Here is my card for day 10 of Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration. I found this sketch a little challenging at first, like it was better suited for a scrapbook layout. I was worried my card would look too busy or something. Here is the sketch (#26):
I'm actually pretty darn pleased with the way my card turned out. And I don't think it looks too busy after all. I'm ALL about Paper Smooches Stamps right now (and actually just joined their monthly stamp club. Squeal!), so I wanted to incorporate some of their free digital stamps. I only own 1 of their stamp sets so far, and it's a cool sentiment set called Word Salad. But since I don't have any of their cute images to play with, so I find it super cool that they offer free digital stamps. I thought this little clover and "lucky to have you" sentiment were too cute, so I used both of them on my card. I also used to clover to create a background on my kraft card base. Now for the paper yummies:

I printed the big clover directly onto the cute green polka dot paper, and also onto white cardstock. I colored the white clover with my Prismacolor markers to match the lighter green color. Then I cut that clover out and paper pieced it onto the dotted clover. It looked cute, but didn't "pop" enough for my liking. So I took some lime green Stickles to it, and that did the job! I added some black machine stitching around the patterned papers, and popped the sentiment up with foam dots. I added some cute green gingham ribbon and a chipboard button. Here's a closer look:
I am also playing along with Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge, The Ribbon Carousel Anything Goes challenge, and entering this card in Paper Smooches March Guest Designer Search. I don't think I've ever posted thrice in one day!). This week at CAS-ual Fridays, the challenge is clean and simple paper piecing, which I love to do. This is also my card for day 9 of Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration.
Here is the CPS sketch (#5, from way back in 2007!):

I really liked this sketch as soon as I saw it, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I couldn't wait to use the kite stamp from my new Hero Arts "Right at Home" set. First I stamped the Hero Arts cloud background, then stamped the kite right on top of it. Then I stamped the kite (minus the string) on each of four polka dot patterned papers by The Paper Studio. I cut each of the four section of the kite from a different color of patterned paper, and pieced them onto the kite that was stamped on the clouds. So CUTE! Now for the paper yummies:

The sentiment stamp is from the same set as the kite. I stamped it three times along a strip of patterned paper, then flag-cut the right end. I machine stitched around the clouds background with yellow thread, then I stitched right over the black ink of the kite and string with black thread. It may be difficult to see in the picture, but it's a fun way to add a little texture to the kite. Here's a close-up (click any picture to make it larger):
I'm also playing along at Hiding in My Craft Room #33: Super Scraps Saturday.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: card base: The Paper Studio; cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned papers: The Paper Studio; stamps: Hero Arts; ink: Hampton Art (aqua), Tsukineko (black); buttons: craft supply: baker's twine: Divine Twine; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer (yellow), Coats & Clark (black)

CPS Day 8 - Christmas

I'm back with my second post of the day: my card for day 8 of Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration. Here is the sketch (#102):
Again I went with a Christmas card, since I needed one more card to round out my Christmas in February card class. I got to use my new Christmas Word Block Stamp by Darkroom Door. I just love the look of white ink against kraft paper. I also used the ornament stamp from the Christmas Sentiments set by TPC Studio. I kept this card pretty simple, as the sketch lends itself to a CAS card. Now for the Paper Yummies:

Stampin' Up! Melon Mambo ink was a pretty close match to this patterned paper by GCD Studios. I punched the bottom edge of the patterned paper with a Martha Stewart punch (not sure of the name) that does both the scalloped edge and a little hole above each scallop. Then I hand-stitched some baker's twine through the punched holes. I finished it off with some white dashed lines around the ornament and the kraft cardstock. Here's a closer view:
I'm also playing along with Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge sponsored by Simon Says Stamp. Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific (white), Recollections (kraft); patterned paper: GCD Studios; stamps: Darkroom Door (background text), TPC Studio (ornament); inks: Stampin' Up! I have a couple posts coming your way today as I try to catch up on the Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary celebration's 15 sketches. This is the sketch from day 7, and today they posted the 14th sketch. Eek! This is sketch #242:
I gotta be honest - this sketch challenged me a little bit. I knew I was going to do a Christmas theme so that I could also use this card in my upcoming Christmas in February card class. And I knew I wanted to use that cute little birdie and the branch, both by Hero Arts. And I had a bunch of this red cardstock pre-cut to this size from a previous class. For some reason, though, the card really didn't come together for me until I added those little black dashed lines around the die-cut piece and the strip of kraft cardstock with the scalloped edge. I am super pleased with the final result - I think it's pretty darn cute! Now for the paper yummies:

I embossed the red cardstock with my "Seeing Spots" Cuttlebug folder, and lightly went over the raised areas with some white ink. I used a Nestabilities die for the white cardstock piece, then stamped the lil' birdie and the branch underneath him. I colored them in with Prismacolor markers, then used some Frosted Lace Stickles to look like snow had fallen on them. The beautiful sentiment stamp is from Market Street Stamps "Essential Holiday Elegance" set. I stamped the little snowflake and embossed it with white powder, then punched it out with my Martha Stewart scalloped circle punch. Here is a little closer look at the "snow" (click on any picture to make it larger):

I'm also playing along with Christmas Card Challenges "Create your own background" challenge. Today I have my card for day 6 of Card Positioning Systems 5th anniversary. I really liked this simple little sketch, and thought it would be perfect for my upcoming Christmas in February class at Real Deals. Yep... I said Christmas. This year I started a monthly Christmas card class where I teach 3 Christmas cards and one everyday card, so that by the time Christmas rolls around, you've built up a stash of cute, handmade cards and you don't have to scramble at the last minute. And you have some everyday cards to give along the way. Here is the sketch (#37):
For my card, I wanted to use my Happy Holidays stamp set from Hero Arts/Basic Grey's Nordic Holiday collection. Along those same lines, I chose some pretty patterned paper from GCD Studios' Scandia Jul collection. Now for the paper yummies:

While making this card, I invented (LOL) a new way to use a ribbon scrap that's not long enough to tie into a knot, much less a bow. I wrapped it around the card front, and used the baker's twine to secure the ribbon (in a half-knot) like you would a pony tail. Then I separated the two ends of the ribbon and pulled them in opposite directions (like when you separate your pony tail into two sections and pull them apart from one another to make the hair band tighter). Then I brought the baker's twine to the top of the ribbon, threaded the two ends through a couple of stacked buttons, and tied the baker's twine into a bow, securing both the ribbon and the buttons. I thought it looked pretty cute, and I'll definitely be using this trick on future projects. Here's a closer picture:
I'm also playing along with Jingle Belles "All Buttoned Up" challenge

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections (kraft), Georgia Pacific (white), Core'dinations; patterned paper: GCD Studios; stamps: Hero Arts/Basic Grey; inks: American Crafts (green), Joann (white); embossing powder: Hampton Art; white pen: Signo Uniball; edge punch: Fiskars; ribbon: Michael's; baker's twine: Divine Twine: buttons: craft supply; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

CPS Day 5 - i love you always

Happy Thursday! I'm back with my card for day 5 of the Card Positioning Systems anniversary celebration. Here is the sketch (#38):For my card, I wanted to incorporate some more cute stamps from Paper Smooches. The "i love you" and "always" are from the Word Salad set, and the cute little hearts with the arrow through them is this month's (FREE!) digital stamp from Paper Smooches. Now for the paper yummies:
I printed the digital stamp on some of that cute gray polka dot paper from yesterday's card, but the gray didn't quite match the grays in my other patterned papers, so I darkened the paper slightly using my Prismacolor markers. I also printed the image on white cardstock so that I could paper piece the hearts and still see the arrow on the white cardstock. I stamped "i love you" on the hearts, and embossed them with white powder. Then I used a white Signo pen to doodle on the hearts and color the overlap between the two hearts. I stamped "always" beneath the hearts and embossed them with charcoal powder.
I'm also playing along with Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge and Paper Smooches March Designer search. I enjoyed this simple sketch, and my card came together pretty smoothly. Here is the sketch:
For the card I wanted to use some new stamps I got, so I stamped this cute flowery image from Hampton Art and colored it in with Prismacolor markers, then highlighted with my white Signo Uniball pen. Then I stamped the cute little sentiment from Paper Smooches down below, leaving enough room for a bunch of different colors of baker's twine. I stamped both stamps with Versamark ink and embossed with American Crafts embossing powder in charcoal to coordinate with the gray-on-gray polka dot paper by Pink Paislee. Now for the paper yummies:

I think it turned out pretty darn cute, and I love the rainbow of baker's twine. I will also be submitting this to Paper Smooches for their March guest designer search, and playing along at Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge and 365 Cards Marvelous Markers challenge.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: card base (kraft): The Paper Studio; cardstock: Core'dinations (yellow), Georgia Pacific (white); patterned paper: Pink Paislee; stamps: Hampton Art (image), Paper Smooches (sentiment); ink: Tsukineko; embossing powder: American Crafts; markers: Prismacolor; white pen: Signo Uniball; baker's twine: Divine Twine; button: Joann; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

CPS Day 3 - Thank you shabby chic card

I've been working feverishly to catch up with the Card Positioning Systems daily sketches in celebration of their 5th anniversary. I'm going to *try* to complete all 15. Here is the sketch from day three:
I had a pretty tough time with this sketch, since my very linear brain doesn't like things to be skewed or diagonal - even when following a sketch. And I know you don't have to follow each sketch exactly, but I'm trying to go outside my "straight-lined" box. After a lot of changes in plans for this card, I REALLY love it. I've been making a lot of cutesy cards lately, and I just love the shabby chic vintage style of this one. Last week I posted about Blue Moon Scrapbooking, and what great customer service they provide. The last time I shopped there, the owner gave me a My Mind's Eye stamp set that was a BRAND NEW release at CHA. I used the stamp set to make the staff a thank you card. Now for the paper yummies:
The large stamp and the linear stamp (dots/dashes/triangles) are from the new "Follow Your Heart" line by Rhonna Farrer. The stamp set is called "Be Amazing". The "thank you" stamp is Hero Arts, from the "Year Round Sentiments" set. I stamped the large image twice, to give it a bit of a shadow. First I stamped it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap (the same color I used to distress the edges of my paper). Then I stamped it again in black Versafine ink. You might be able to see the shadow better in the 3rd picture below.

I used a strip of muslin in place of ribbon, tied it in a bow, and pushed a stick-pin through the knot (**TIP: place a clear earring-back on the tip of your stick-pin so you don't poke somebody's eye out. I buy mine at Micheal's**). I've had these little heart stick-pins for years, and they're kind of a peachy/orangy color. I colored the heart with a Prismacolor marker to match the red stripes on the ledger paper. Both patterned papers are My Mind's Eye.
This next pic is a bit difficult to discern, but I tried Crackle Accents (like Glossy Accents, but it crackles) for the first time on this card. First, I colored in this little flower in the stamped image with a dark blue Prismacolor pencil, and blended it out with odorless mineral spirits. Then I applied the Crackle Accents, and somehow the crackle knew that it was on a flower! LOL! It's the weirdest thing - each petal cracked down the middle, and then outward, just like the veins on a real plant. I haven't tried it on anything else, to know if it always does that or not, but I really like the stuff so far.
I'm also playing along with Lily Pad Cards patterned paper challenge presented by Simon Says Stamp.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections; patterned papers: My Mind's Eye; stamps: My Mind's Eye, Hero Arts; ink: Ranger, Tsukineko; edge punch: EK Success; crackle glaze: Ranger; muslin: Joann; stick pin: Heidi Grace; marker, colored pencil: Prismacolor; mini staples: Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher; pearl: The Paper Studio; Piercing Bug (for faux stitching in lower right corner): EK Success; gray pen (faux stitching): American Crafts

CPS Day 2 - aeio...missing u

Hi, everybody! I'm back with my card for day 2 of the Card Positioning Systems 5 year anniversary celebration. Here is the sketch (#166):
I thought it would be fun to use the large circular element in the sketch as a window in the front of my card, with the smaller circle affixed to a piece of patterned paper that would "bridge" the window. Not sure if that is the best way to describe it or of that even makes sense (LOL), but you'll see what I'm talking about. I used my Nestabilities circle dies to cut the window and the sentiment piece, and I think it turned out really cute! Now for the paper yummies:

I used patterned paper by October Afternoon, and machine stitched with red thread around the edges. Here is a close-up of the window, showing how you can see through to the inside of the card. The sentiment and the heart are Hero Arts stamps from the Year Round Sentiments set. I stamped the heart on patterned paper, trimmed around it, adhered it under my sentiment, and applied Glossy Accents on top of it. SO CUTE!
I am also playing along with the Die Cutting Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and the Lily Pad Cards Patterned Paper challenge presented by Simon Says Stamp.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections (kraft), Core'dinations (red scallop strip at top); patterned papers: October Afternoon; stamps: Hero Arts; ink: Tsukineko; cutting dies: Nestabilities by Spellbinders; die cutting machine: Cuttlebug by Provocraft; scallop edge punch: Fiskars; dimensional glaze: Glossy Accents by Ranger; trim: Michael's; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer; buttons: Joann; twine: Offray

CPS Day 1 - You're the best

Card Positioning Systems is celebrating their 5th anniversary. Each day, for 15 days, one of their super talented designers picks her favorite sketch, which in itself seems like a difficult task since there are so many great sketches from which to choose. Then she makes a new card based on the sketch and posts it for all to enjoy. Everybody else who makes a card based on the sketch and links it to the CPS blog is entered to win a prize. For those that follow all 15 sketches, there is a drawing for an awesome prize package. I'm going to TRY to do all 15...they're already on day 9, and this is my card for day 1. Yes...number 1. But, I've actually made cards for days 1-5, so I'll be posting them over the next few days (when I'm not working on catching up. LOL). You can play along with the sketch here. Here is day 1, sketch #136:And now for the paper yummies. I made a square card instead of rectangular, but the rest of the elements are pretty true to the sketch. I got this stamp set by Mint Motif and couldn't wait to try it out!
I'm also playing along with the Lily Pad Cards Patterned Paper Challenge, presented by Simon Says Stamp, the Mismatched Challenge at 365 Cards, and the Anything Goes Challenge at Do You Stack Up?

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: Cardstock: Core'dinations, Recollections; patterned papers: American Crafts, October Afternoon; embossing folder, die cut machine: Cuttlebug by Provocraft; stamps: Mint Motif; ink: Clearsnap, Tsukineko; embossing powder: American Crafts; edge punch: EK Success; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers; sanding block: Making Memories; trim: Michael's

hello sunshine

I recently bought my first set of Paper Smooches stamps, and just cannot get enough of their cute little images and adorable sentiments. I also just discovered a few days ago that they offer free digital stamps on their blog, which is so cool! So I downloaded a few (all of them!), and used a couple of them to play along with their current challenge, inspired by this picture:

I just love the stripes and all the texture in those cute flowers and leaves, and I love the "fresh" color palette. I wanted to incorporate stripes in a little different way, bring the fresh spring colors into my card, and add some texture. I also used the following sketch from Young Crafters Unite:

I just LOVE the way this card turned out so bright and cheery. I added texture by stitching the sun's polka-dot rays (which are my stripes). I incorporated the teal/mint colors from the inspiration photo in the form of buttons and by outlining the sentiment banner. And now for the paper yummies:
It's a bit difficult to see in the photos, but I die-cut only the circular part of the sun using a Nestabilities die, so that I could "pop" him up a bit using dimensional adhesive:
I'm playing along with:
Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge

Die Cutting Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

Young Crafters Unite Challenge #6

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: card base: The Paper Studio; cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned paper: Making Memories; stamps: Paper Smooches free digital stamps; markers: Prismacolor; cutting dies: Spellbinders; die cutting machine: Cuttlebug; edge punch: EK Success; ribbon: Michael's; baker's twine: Divine Twine; buttons, pen: craft supply, dimensional adhesive: American Crafts, sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

Simple Card Saturday

Here is my CAS (clean and simple) card for the week. My friend Amy (who owns the store where I teach classes) picked up this adorable stamp yesterday, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to use it. The stamp is a wood-mount that includes both the image and the sentiment, so to create my card, I stamped the entire stamp once, then masked off the sentiment and stamped just the doggy three more times. Then I stamped him again on the patterned paper, and paper-pieced him onto my card. I thought he turned out pretty darn cute!

I am playing along with a few challenges:

-CAS-ual Fridays CFC 38: "On the red carpet" (my card was inspired by Clifford's Really Big Movie. I am lucky enough to live in the same city where they are located, and they are awesome enough to let people come and shop in their warehouse! I can do some serious damage every. single. time I go there! And when I am there I always hear Scott, the owner, making a phone call to each and every person who has place an order with them. I can't say that I've ever had the owner of any other online store call me personally to thank me for my order. I think that's a great way to do business, and will continue to give them mine. They carry a ton of all the latest products, and are willing to do special orders if by chance there is something they don't carry. For those of you who would be ordering online, they offer FREE shipping on orders of $50 or more!

I stopped by Blue Moon yesterday to pick up a bunch of the Hero Arts 2012 releases (and cash in the gift certificate I got for Christmas - squeal!), and Scott had just returned from CHA. He told me all about the new product lines that he ordered, and even gave (that's right! GAVE) me a BRAND NEW stamp set from My Mind's Eye that was given out at the show. It's from the "Follow Your Heart" collection, and it's TOO stinkin' cute! I can't wait to use it, especially to make them a thank you card! Here's a pic:
Thanks for looking!

Happy Valentine's Day card

Here is a Valentine's Day card I made for the Hero Arts 2012 Valentine card exchange on Flickr. There were 57 gals who participated in the exchange, and it was a lot of fun! I made this card for Sheila in Wisconsin, and received 2 (yes 2!) lovely cards from Gayatri in Australia. How cool is that?!?

Here's a close-up of the rosette, on top of which I stacked a pink button and a red felt heart that I Stickled:

And since the card was too bulky for me to want to send it in a regular envelope, I decided to send it in a bubble mailer. And that gave me an excuse to decorate the regular envelope:

I hope Sheila enjoyed the card. (A scramble is a 90 minute challenge where the hostess announces a theme or requirement for the card, and each person must make a card following the rules, photograph it, and upload it in 90 minutes.) For this scramble, each card must have had a.) ribbon, b.) pink, c.) a pocket, d.) at least one Hero Arts stamp, and e.) a "pop". I popped my button up on top of the knot of my bow. It was my first time playing along with a scramble, and it was a lot of fun, especially because the "pop" was a twist that was added 20 minutes into the challenge. I think Rachelle (the hostess this round) was trying to kill me. LOL. I will also be adding this to the patterned paper challenge at Lily Pad Cards and the "anything goes" challenge at the SimonSaysStamp blog. By the time I saw the challenge and made my card, I had missed the deadline to link it to their challenge. But I had a lot of fun making this cute little card, and am really pleased with it. It is my Simple Card Saturday for this week:

Let's dish!
Apparently, some people (like my mom) are unaware that "dish" is another word for "gossip", in case you were confused... :)

Here's another take using the same sentiment and stamp:
Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections; patterned papers: October Afternoon; stamp (telephone): American Crafts; ink: Versamark; sentiment: computer generated (using font "Pea Heather's Handwriting from Amanda's blog); velvet scallop trim: My Mind's Eye; twine: Offray; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper; black pen: Recollections; buttons: craft supply

Valentine's Day card class

Love is in the air! They challenge me to think a little differently, and make a card that looks complete without using a lot of embellishment. If you haven't checked out CASual Fridays, I would like to encourage you to do so. They issue a weekly challenge, and have an amazingly talented design team with lots of inspiration. I've not participated in one of their challenges (yet), but it's on my to do list. I'd also like to start a new personal challenge to do a CAS card each week, and feature it here as "Simple card Saturday." Here is the first one (well, two):

I printed the sentiment on my computer, using a font called "Pea Heather's Handwriting" from Amanda's blog. The stamp is American Crafts, stamped in Versafine ink, embossed with clear powder, and colored with Prismacolor markers. I tied Martha Stewart baker's twine around the rainbow, put Diamond Stickles glitter glue on the clouds, and did some white dashed lines around the edges.
I did a second, slightly different but still CAS, card too:

Thanks for looking!

Christmas in January

I've started a new series of classes this year: monthly Christmas cards. Each month we'll be making 3 Christmas cards and 1 all-occasion card. By the time Christmas rolls around, you'll have plenty of handmade cards to go around (36 if you take all the classes), without having to scramble at the last minute. And you'll have made 12 all-occasion cards to give throughout the year.
These classes are SUPER affordable and are suitable for crafters (and non-crafters - LOL!) of any level. You'll learn several techniques, including heat embossing, dry embossing, paper piecing, die cutting, and more. This month's class is Saturday, January 21, from 1-3 pm at Real Deals Tucson. There are still plenty of spaces left for this class. Call, email, or hit up our Facebook page to sign up. Ok, now for the paper yummies:

Merry Christmas

Wishing you joy

Winter wishes to warm your heart

And here is the all-occasion card for this month: birthday
Birthday wishes (my card was featured on Hero Arts' Twitter page! I previously blogged at www.i-heart-scrapbooking.blogspot.com, and by "previously" I mean "I haven't posted there in over a year." Whoops! :) Well, I've kinda gone in a different "crafty" direction over the past year, and am finally getting back into the swing of things blog-wise. I didn't want to continue that blog, as I've done very little scrapbooking as of late, but didn't want to delete the blog altogether as it is home to the pictures posted there (and thanks to lovely computer viruses, that is the ONLY place to find some of those pics).
I am now teaching classes at a cute little home decor store, and I'm excited to show everybody what we've been working on and what's to come. I'll be posting pictures of class projects past and future, as well as my own "personal" projects along the way. So stay tuned for adorable handcrafted home decor and paper yummies!
